Rebuilding the Neighborhood Beat by Beat

Music and art underlined the celebration that marked the start of rebuilding of Olden Temple neighborhood in Beuningen, Holland. The neighborhood was built only 20 years ago, but the development was flawed and access and parking was problematic. Recently, the Housing Company decided to rebuild the entire neighborhood and asked residents to create their own sidewalk stones as an art feature.

On 21 May 2012, the Heartbeat Drummers from Drum Café Benelux coaxed neighbors out of their houses with pots and pans to join their orchestra, and then the mixed group gathered in the square in the middle of the area to reveal the artwork.

The 24 musicians from Drum Café entertained residents with vocal percussion, call and responses drumming as well as handclapping tricks. Beat by beat, the rebuilding process was initiated.
